One of the many reasons that Hawaii remains such a draw is that there are several islands to visit, each with their own unique attractions to offer. The best known of the Hawaiian Islands to tourists is Oahu; home of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor.
Hawaii’s Big Island contains the National Park and a spectacular view of the state’s volcanoes. For a more relaxed vacation, Molokai or Kauai are the islands to visit. If an extended vacation is in the cards for you, then you may want to visit each of the islands of Hawaii and enjoy what they have to offer.
Oahu is world famous for its beaches. The north side of the island is a great place to surf or just thrill to the sights of others riding some of the biggest waves in the world. Kauai is called the Garden Island for its exquisite natural beauty. You can spend your days hiking the picture perfect canyons or swimming in a secluded waterfall in Hawaii. Helicopter tours take you on a breathtaking ride skimming the sand and surf. It is a wonderful experience that captures the intense charm of this small but incredibly beautiful island. Romantic couples will want to find a quiet little cove to use for your own private beach. These exceptional experiences are what Kauai is known for. Many people decide to have their wedding ceremonies within the lush foliage. Kauai is also famous for the movies that have been made there. Starting as early as the 1930’s, Kauai has been used for major moving pictures, with more recent entries such as Indiana Jones and all of the Jurassic Park movies. You may find yourself walking in the footsteps of your favorite movie stars or even eating next to one in the many sea side restaurants you will want to visit.
Molokai is known as the Friendly Island. Molokai is less developed than the rest of the state, allowing visitors to take in some traditional rural Hawaiian life. You can take mule rides to the north side of the island, which is the former site of a leper colony which is now a historical attraction. These mule rides offer an all-day trip which takes you from one side of the island to another, up and down 1,700 feet to the colony. You’ll be able to see the beautiful wild flora and fauna of Hawaii along the way – and see some ingenious traditional Hawaiian aquaculture for yourself; the island is working to restore traditional Hawaiian fish ponds.
If you wish to visit multiple islands during your next visit be sure to consider how you will get from island to island. Fortunately there are several convenient methods to do this. The most common way is by air. Island hoppers can quickly take you from place to place for a very reasonable price and most flights are only about an hour. For a little less money but a bit more time you can take a pleasant cruise on one of the many ferry boats that transport visitors to neighboring islands. Finally for the more discriminating visitor, a luxury yacht can be chartered to wisk you away in luxury to your next paradise location.
