English Beach Location Used In Promotion Video For Canada
Written by MichaelZ on June 23, 2009 – 9:05 am -Part of marketing film produced by Canada to promote part of the country has turned out to have been shot in an English coastal town.
The video was included in a package commissioned by the tourist board in Alberta to help promote and boast visitor numbers. It was intended to show the best features of the Alberta province in Canada and increase levels of Canada holidays in the region. However, when Peter Bailey, a Canadian who wanted to take his boat there after seeing the video, he realised that something was not right. He initially believed he was seeing images of one of the regions huge lakes but when he looked a little deeper, it turned out to be the North Sea. armed with the knowledge that Alverta was a landlocked region and wad a good 350 miles from any seas, Bailey sent his findings of the the relevant people.
When Peter approached the Northumberland Tourist Board they instantly saw the funny side of the matter. ” we think its rather funny - Canada trying to sell its landlocked provinces as coastal resorts” stated Sheelagh Caygill. Most people in Northumberland as well are more honoured than upset. commenting that they are flattered that Canada consider the area good enough for their film.
A rather more defensive response was given by Ottawa government when Bailey announced his findings to them. It was used by us simply to “symbolise the fact Albertans are a worldly people” stated a spokesman. Tom Olsen, the government’s head of media relations also said “There’s no attempt to mislead here. We used the footage because it helped us set the right ambiance for the rest of the production.”
Instead of taking the segment of the film out, statements suggest that the production will now include a thank you note to the Northumberland Tourist board. It is safe to say that all involved are a little embarrassed about the situation but hope that it should blow over soon. Among other promotional works that Canada has recently released include one for Alaskan cruises therefore there will surely be people keeping an sharp eye out for passing flamingos in the Alaskan cruises footage

Snow Stays Away From Canada’s Slopes
Written by MichaelZ on April 10, 2009 – 2:15 pm -Canada’s previous good snow was not evident this year after and very poor conditions left some people calling it the worst season in 10 years. People taking holidays in Canada this year got something of let down.
Canada is known all around the world for being the place find great snow and perfectly formed pistes.Hoards of people head to the Rockies every year in search of their snow fix and the resort of Whistler is practically a house hold name. This season just gone however did not delivery the magic that everyone expected.
The slopes were left desperately needing cover following a -30 degree high pressure period before Xmas and no snow really materialised out of the low pressure afterwards. There were little bits of snowfall here and there of about 3-5cm but it didn’t hang around and it is difficult to ride on that amount anyway. One skier at the airport said “it’s been borderline terrible”. Castle was the resort he had been to the previous week but upon his arrival he was greeted by zero cover and exposed slopes. “I maybe got 4 days of riding out of 14, that’s not good”. Another visitor said that she decided to ditch the skiing in favour of doing some sightseeing on one of the local company’s polar bear holidays.
The unusually small amounts of snow have caused some people to put the blame on global warming, states that temperatures have been incredibly sporadic and atmospheric pressures all over the place. This argument is brought into question however when you consider that many of the American resorts and most of those in Europe have just had one of the best seasons in their history.Bad luck is what most visitors put it down to and hope for better fortunes next season

Mexico’s Diamond in the rough: Playa Del Carmen
Written by MichaelZ on March 22, 2009 – 12:33 pm -Playa Del Carmen, Mexico is in the Mexican state of Yucatan. It’s the kind of place that defies the imagination and surpasses the expectation. Not to be forgotten sandwiched between its bigger brothers, Colima is small but not unimportant. It’s not to big, and it’s not too small. A pleasant warm temperature, the weather is good year round.Playa Del Carmen has an undiscovered feel but it still offers so much. In short, it’s been a wonderful place to live while the rest of Mexico sells out for tourists. For example, Playa Del Carmen has approximately 5% of the hotel rooms of Puerto Vallarta to the north.
Two-thirds of those visiting are Canadian. It looks like many from Canada have decided to make Playa Del Carmen their second home. More than 2/3 of the foreigners are from Canada. The first thing you notice is that Playa Del Carmen is not like these other “hot spots”. Welcoming you back to their restaurant is what makes eating at the smaller places worth it. You leave feeling wanted and welcomed. Many wish Playa Del Carmen would stay a buried treasure. A feeling which is a shared desire of the locals, who, it is reported, have for many years been reluctant to accept federal funds targeted at developing tourism in the area. Playa Del Carmen remains true to it’s roots.
Come see for yourself. Come see the incredible and amazing Xcaret eco-park where you will see what the Yucatan was like many years ago. Also go and enjoy an unforgetable experience. It is an amazing eco adventure park and resort that is fun for the whole family! You have to experience it to believe it. The exciting, sheltered, unique city that is Playa Del Carmen. This is the truth, it’s no myth, it’s cheap, and it can be yours today go on a Playa Del Carmen Vacation today!
