Captain Steer That Vessel

Written by MichaelZ on July 4, 2010 – 6:06 pm -

Washington State offers almost boundless water options such as boating, kayaking, canoeing, white water river rafting, swimming, fishing, hiking, sightseeing, walking the boardwalks and day dreaming in the sand.  There are a large number of magnificent beaches all along the Pacific Coast with North West Washington state having some of the most spectacular.

Long Beach Peninsula provides visitors blocks of unique shops, wonderful seafood, fine lodging, small museums, horseback riding, and an expansive beach.   Long Beach Peninsula is also home to a new national park, The Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, two historic lighthouses, delicious restaurants, cranberry bogs, and oyster farms.   The boardwalk stretches for almost half a mile with excellent views and picnic areas and is a quick walk from most downtown Long Beach activities.

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park is chocked full of remarkable historical sites to see.  An actual encampment of Fort Clatsop has park ranger led programs and re-enactors in the forts and trailheads.  The Fort To Sea Trail starts from the Visitor Center at Fort Clatsop.  The first two miles bring you up a easy climb to the top of Clatsop Ridge, where on a cloudless day you can make out through the trees to the Pacific Ocean.  From there, you descend through thick woods and get through to wooded pasture with small dispersed lakes. The forested pasture leads to the crossing tunnel under U.S. Highway 101 and near Camp Rilea.  This part of the trail marks the beginning of sandy soil and rolling dunes and leads into seaside woods before arriving at the Sunset Beach/Fort to Sea Trail parking lot.   From there, take the 1-mile path to the beach.   There are many bed and breakfast accommodations all along this area that will complement  your vacations appeal.

Tourists are drawn to Cape Flattery due to its’ end-of-the-Earth mystic.  Cape Flattery is a woody region over the Pacific Ocean and illusive Tatoosh Island, a sacred Makah spot. America’s northwestern most site is reachable by a half-mile cedar-plank boardwalk created by Makah tribal members in 1997.   From the furthermost viewing platform, you can see Tatoosh Island and its single lighthouse standing up to the wind and surf.  At two different viewpoints, you can watch the waves crash against rocks.

Along the shoreline are fantastic Washington beach rentals that will complement  your enjoyment of this great state and are within minutes of fresh sea food restaurants and shopping.  Clallam Bay and Sekiu is a glorious bay with mountain surrounds, deep blue waters, and magnificent boats.  Salmon is abundant and caught and served regularly all throughout this area.

The north west vicinity of Washington state is a nature lovers paradise.  With mystical beaches along side magnificent mountains, it is truly a site to see.  Wild life is overflowing and the stars shine brightly at night.

Copalis Beach is a coastal community where the Copalis River greets the sea.  Offering razor clam digging, fishing, beachcombing, and other recreational opportunities, Copalis beach is a nature lovers haven.

Vacation in Savannah

Written by MichaelZ on July 30, 2009 – 2:10 am -

Savannah is a lovely city, a great place for romantics and history buffs. Savannah is the oldest and most tenderly preserved city in Georgia. It has long history of Southern charm and hospitality. Its a town of cobble stone roads and elegant mansions with gardens of camellias, azaleas, and roses beneath oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Savannah is a perfect vacation spot for anyone in search of history, warm weather, fun, and something different. To accomodate its guests, the city has many Savannah bed and breakfast hotels to choose from.

To really appreciate its downtown area, enjoy a carriage tour, a ghost tour, or simply walk around. There are dozens of designated points of interest, and you won’t have trouble catching a few stories from the local residents.

The inner city is part of the 1,400 historically and architecturally important buildings making Savannah one of America’s largest urban historic districts. After a day touring Savannah, book a seat on the River Street Riverboat Company’s cruises where you can enjoy live entertainment, dancing and even thematic dinner cruises.

Your Savannah vacation agenda should include some of the following attractions: the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, the Ships of the Maritime Museum, Skidaway Island State Park. You may also like to see the locations of 68 movie sites on a Savannah Movie Tour or try out one of the Ghost Tours or Haunted tours given each evening.

If you’d like to enjoy the beach, Tybee Island makes for a great day trip. Take a trolley ride, bus, or car ride and spend a few hours basking in the sun. This fun little place will whet your appetite for all things southern, and the pier and pavilion make for great people-watching opportunities. After you’ve had your fill of the beach, it’ll be nice to return to the mainland for an evening of blues or jazz, and you won’t have far to go to return to your Savannah Georgia bed and breakfast or one of the many Savannah Motels.
