Bonding During a Lake Tahoe Vacation
Written by MichaelZ on November 28, 2009 – 11:05 pm -Brought to you by car insurance quote.
Going on a trip with your family is supposed to give everyone a chance to bond and what better way to do that but to go on a Tahoe Vacation.
Lake Tahoe which is in the northern part of California has a lot to offer to its visitors. It was once host to the winter Olympics and to this day, is considered to be one of the best skiing destinations in the world.
To enjoy the snow, you can choose from one of seven ski resorts. You can even rent their equipment if you did not bring your own. Some of these places even give lessons to beginners and have other activities for you to enjoy such as snowboarding, tubing and riding a snowmobile.
Another family bonding activity you can do with your family is hiking. Lake Tahoe has hundreds of trails to choose from and some of these are short while others are long. Take for instance the hiking trail at Eagles Lake. This one is 2 mile long and you have to cross a steel footbridge to get from one end to the other. You can hike alone or hike with a guide.
You can also go biking since there are trails in and around the city. These are maintained by the Tahoe City Public Utility District and Caltrans fund. The best part is that these are all paved so you won’t have that much difficulty expect perhaps when you are going uphill. You can rent bikes from various shops around the lake.
Fishing is another activity you can do with your family. You can do this in lakes that are open all year round like in the Boca Reservoir, Donner Lake, Lake Tahoe, the Prosser and the Stampede Reservoir.
Chances are, this may be your first time to Lake Tahoe and you would like to see the different places. To do that, you can sign up for a guided tour and visit the sights which includes the setting where the famous show Bonanza was recorded especially when it was such a big hit during the 1950’s and 1960’s.
You can take pictures and bring home some souvenirs. A lot of people do that which is quite normal when you are just visiting.
One activity you can also do by the lake is cruising. There are two cruises to choose from namely the Tahoe Queen and the M.S. Dixie II. Both ships cruise around the lake for 2 hours daily. It also serves dinner on board. The M.S. Dixie II offers the dinner cruise on Wednesdays while the Tahoe Queen offers this on Saturdays.
As for places to stay in Lake Tahoe, you can always check in a hotel or rent a townhouse, condominium or home. The rates are nightly and if there are none around, you can always camp in the woods as long as you brought your tent along.
Bonding with your family does not always have to cost a fortune since there are a few simple things that you can do together. Skiing, hiking, fishing, biking and eating are just some of the things you can do should you decide to go on Lake Tahoe Vacation. So discuss the idea of coming here the next time everyone is available.

Awesome Discount Disney Vacations!
Written by MichaelZ on November 28, 2009 – 6:18 pm -Awesome Cheap Disney Vacation Packages
With the crazy changes in the economy lately, it’s been really hard for my family and I to take a vacation. We used to take vacations all the time. We have traveled to places all over the continental U.S. and took a lot of day trips, but now we can’t really afford to do that. In order to save money for bills and the daily essentials, we have cut back on all the “extras.” So now, when we decide we want to see a movie, we will typically rent one instead of going to the theater. Or, if we want to go to a theme park, we will try and find local discounts before we will consider it. Luckily for us, we live in Florida, so amusement is really the name of the game here and for one, cheap Disney vacation packages are easy to come by.
If you are looking for discount Disneyworld vacations or discount Universal vacations and live in Florida, they are really pretty easy to come by. They offer annual pass discounts for residents, you can go for free on your birthday and you can even take a tour of a timeshare community and typically get tickets for free. Another way to get discount Disney vacations is simply by working there. If you work there, even part time or seasonally, you can get in for free and I think so can close friends and family. Although no one in my family works there, I know a lot of people who go there all the time because of someone in their close circle who works there.
Another really cool thing that we tend to do in lieu of spending a lot of money on a vacation is going to the beach. Even if it’s just for the day, it can seem like a real getaway to sit and relax in the sand and surf. If you are by yourself or have a family, there is really something for everyone at the beach and it’s virtually free. In Florida, we have a lot of beaches and a lot of them have free public access parking as well. If you live in a state that doesn’t have a body of water you can swim in or if it is typically too cold year round to swim, then you can always find a local college or university and find out when their public swim times are. When I was younger we would always go to the local college for public swim nights on Friday and I would meet my friends there. This is a lot of fun for kids especially! If you don’t have access to a public pool, you could always get the family together for a night at a local hotel that has an indoor heated pool for the cooler months and have an overnight away from home.
Another really fun activity to do instead of taking a full vacation is having a camp out in the back yard or in your living room. This can be a romantic thing to do if you are a couple or fun for the family if you have children. You can set up games and roast marshmallows (or cook them over the stove if you are indoors) and/or drink wine by the fire for a more romantic setting. With some candles and soft music it can be the perfect escape from everyday life without costing a fortune. With kids, simply cooking their favorite meal and letting them eat it in the tent or on the floor if you are inside can be a really fun event! Sitting around and telling stories can really add to the fun as well! (SN:0A9SDTCV0923a)
Even though things are really hard financially for most people right now, there are still some ways you can find amusement with your family. Taking a nice vacation is definitely ideal, but not always practical these days! Take some time to ask around and also do some research online and try out some of the ideas I mentioned and you will be having fun and saving money in no time! Top Japanese Customs to Learn Before Your Trip to Japan
Written by MichaelZ on November 28, 2009 – 6:18 pm -Do you want to go on an electronics shopping spree while eating all the sushi you’ve always dreamed of? If so, a trip to Japan is in order. Before you pack your bags, though, make sure you take some time to learn the basic Japanese customs first, so you can fit in and have a more enjoyable trip.
One of the simplest yet most important customs in Japan is to bow when in front of someone or when you are talking to someone. Bows vary depending on the situation and the person in front of you. However, just keep in mind that the more superior the person in front of you is, the deeper and longer the bow should be. Bows also tend to be long and deep when apologizing.
Also, when talking to someone, make sure you use his or her last name, along with the suffix -san or -sama (if you want to be more respectful), since first names are only reserved for close friends and family members. It is also important to greet others sincerely, if not, energetically, such as saying good morning (ohayo gozaimasu), good day (konnichiwa), good evening (konbanwa) or good night (oyasuminasai). Remember to say goodbye (sayounara or jyaa ne) before parting ways with someone, as well.
Another of the most popular Japanese customs is removing your shoes at the entrance of a house, as well as most Japanese business establishments and hotels. This custom is practiced in many countries but is particularly important in Japan. Usually, a rack is provided where you can put your shoes. If there is none, simply place your shoes beside the others in an orderly fashion with the toe facing the door, making them easier to put on before you leave.
Sampling Japanese cuisine is one of the highlights of a trip to Japan and while Japanese food is delicious in itself, it is best enjoyed with chopsticks. Indeed, using chopsticks is one of the things you should learn how to do before your trip. It shouldn’t be that difficult. Just find someone to teach you how then keep on practicing. Once you know how, be polite by not leaving your chopsticks in your rice bowl or clattering them together.
After mastering the use of chopsticks, you can now move on to table manners, which are also important Japanese customs. If you are offered an oshibori or wet towel before eating, use this to wipe your hands only, not your mouth, face or neck, then set it aside. Make sure you say ‘itadakimasu’, as well, which is the Japanese equivalent of ‘Bon appetit’. Make sure you clear your plate and don’t be afraid to slurp while eating your noodles since this is acceptable in Japanese culture.
On the other hand, tipping is not acceptable and is even considered insulting so just pay the price without leaving any extra. This doesn’t just apply to restaurants, but also to hotels, cabs and most business establishments and services. When paying, put your cash on the tray provided instead of handing it over to the waitress or the cashier.
Japanese customs apply to bathing, too. When bathing, the Japanese usually use the same tub with the same water, bathing in order from the oldest to the youngest. Technically, they do not use the water to bathe, though. Rather, they wash and rinse beside the tub then just soak in it afterwards. The same is true with public baths like onsens or thermal springs. Therefore, if you happen to relax in an onsen during your trip to Japan, make sure you wash and rinse first, then be careful not to dirty the water in any way.
