Places to visit when your in London

Written by MichaelZ on February 28, 2009 – 12:34 am -

Down in london for the weekend on work and dont really want to spend all the time around the London conference venues? London has plenty to offer the bored -as you can see from this list.

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

  • The london eye- A modern day version of Vienna’s Prater ferris wheel which stands opposite parliament and dominates the river skyline. Jump into a cab and see a spectacular view of the city. Check the weather forecasts, as the gloomy days can sometimes spoil the landscape view your given when your up there, and when its hot the temperature in the capsule can be unbearable. Closed to repair work during the first few months of the year.
  • Big Ben -a contender for Britain’s most well known landmark. Unfortunately not open for the public to go and have a look, but if your near the house of parliament it may be worth getting close for a view. There are cells within the tower clock which are reserved for members of parliament, which havent been used since 1880 -given the Britains financial state, maybe we should look at bringing them back…..
  • Buckingham palace- the official residence of Her majesty queen Elizabeth II, it became the official royal palace when Queen Victoria ascended to the throne. The palace is actually owned by the nation and not the royal family, so some of the rooms can be viewed by the public daily during the summer months. There’s the changing of the guard to see in the forecourt and the palaces state rooms, which have been available to view since 1993 in August and September.
  • The tower of London -Once a fortress, a palace and a prison, the tower reisides on the north bank of the river Thames. Serving as a place of execution, armory, the royal mint and since 1303, the home of the crown jewels. Annoying the guards or the ravens insnt advised, as it still works pretty well as a prison.
  • London zoo -The world’s oldest scientific zoo, was opened on April 27th, 1828 and was opened to the public in 1847, it houses 755 species of animals with 15,104 individuals, making it the largest collections in the United kingdom. With animals ranging from Tasmanian devils to Komodo dragons and Mexican redknee tarantulas.

Mastering the Art of Packing Light

Written by MichaelZ on February 28, 2009 – 12:34 am -

The next time you travel, make a pact with yourself to travel light. When you pack light, you’ll free up your time when you travel. In some cases, you may be able to get away with taking all of your items in a carryon and avoiding baggage check entirely.

The key to getting your luggage reduced to one or two bags is to pack only what you need. While you are packing, continually ask yourself these questions: “Do I really need this or just want it?” or “Do I need to carry this or can I buy it cheaper while I’m traveling?” Think twice before you place anything in your bag. You can always purchase what you need when you arrive at your destination.

Start with your toiletries. Many hotels offer complimentary shampoo and soap, so you may be able to save some space by not packing those. (This also avoids having the bottles leak en route to your destination.). You can buy these items cheaply in most destinations in the world. Buying when you arrive may be a smart idea when it comes to toothbrushes, toothpaste and even deodorant. At the very least, you’ll want to purchase small sizes for packing, so you aren’t lugging around a full size shampoo and conditioner, for example.

The next area where people tend to over-pack is clothing. Your clothes are important, but not so important that you need to take more than one or two bags with you. Choose a few neutral pieces that coordinate well together. Two pairs of pants and three shirts should be enough to get you through a week-long journey, or even longer if you have access to laundry facilities. Women can take a sarong or long scarf to dress up a plain looking outfit, cover up a swimsuit or use as a blanket on the plane. Limit your color choices to just one or two so you can coordinate the pieces together.

Don’t forget to leave room for souvenirs while you are traveling. Pack a smaller, empty bag into your bag to carry items you collect along the way. Or you can leave space in your bag when you start out with the intention of filling it with souvenirs.

As long as you focus on getting by with the minimum of what you need to carry, you’ll be able to pack lightly and enjoy your trip. Keep looking for ways to reduce your bulk and you’ll be able to decrease your luggage when you travel. And if you are embarking on adventure travel, eheck with your tour provider for more tips on proper packing.
